Toastmasters Club Information Session

Registration is now closed.  Thank you for your interest.
  • When: Friday, January 11, 2013
  • Where: Centerville Jr.High
  • When: 7:00-8:30 pm
  • Reporting time: 6:30 pm
  • Who: Current TGIF member families (Parents and YLP graduates)
    • This is a session for parents.  But YLP Graduates are invited so far as they are accompanied by their parent(s).
The purpose of the session is:
  • To invite ALL the TGIF parents to give an opportunity to listen to professional Toastmasters speakers and be informed of the roles, responsibilities and commitments of being a Toastmaster Coach.
  • To enable the parents to sign up for the Toastmasters training, and eventually become coaches.
  • To gradually develop our own coaches and mentors so we can eventually offer YLP and Gavel Club at each school site.

What are the benefits of the session and the training?

  • As you are aware, YLP is one of the most sought after program of TGIF and this year, many students were disappointed that they could not participate. TGIF was forced to limit the student participation due to lack of Toastmasters coaches.
  • By becoming coaches, parents can help TGIF alleviate this problem in future. TGIF is striving hard to accommodate all its student members in this program and we cannot continue without the parents’ help and involvement.
  • Parents will benefit by being better speakers and presenter at their work and home, and their child will benefit by receiving a guaranteed spot in the YLP and Gavel Club programs.

 How to participate:

  • There is no prior experience or training required to sign up
  • Bring your passion, commitment, and willingness to work with students.
  • This is an excellent opportunity to enhance your communication and leadership skills, and a chance to show your child what leadership means through your actions.

Gavel Club: This club is aimed to involve the YLP graduates to further improve and continue the learned skills. The club will be supervised by a Toastmaster member/mentor and run by YLP graduates.

By the end of this year, TGIF will have about 200 young, bright YLP graduates. The Gavel Club will provide opportunities to strengthen their public speaking skills as well as developing leadership skills by mentoring the younger students and introducing them to the world of public speaking at each school site. The availability and the success of this club will depend on the availability of our parent TGIF/Toastmasters coaches.
