Purpose
The GATE Parent Advisory Committee provides an important link
between parents, district staff and Fremont schools. In order to
facilitate communication, the GATE Parent Advisory Committee will
utilize the following avenues for parent input and K-12 articulation.
- Planning Committee - to insure parent
involvement in
planning GATE Parent Advisory Committee meetings.
- Advisory Committee - to provide:
- An opportunity for parents to review, react to, and make
recommendations regarding proposed changes in the
GATE program;
- A means to "share the wealth" among schools, in terms
of
ideas, activities, and/or projects;
- An opportunity for parent education in identified
areas
of interest and concern.
Roles and Responsibilities
The GATE Parent Advisory Committee meets on a regular basis during
the school year. School site representatives should try to attend these
meetings or send an alternate whenever they cannot attend.
The main responsibilities of members are the following:
Communication, Resources, Support, and Planning/Evaluation.
Communication
Act as a liaison between the district office, school site council,
and
parents of GATE students at the local school.
Meet with the principal at his /her child's school to coordinate
local
information sharing among the GATE parents.
Share ideas, questions and news from local schools at the Advisory
Committee meetings and with the GATE Program Specialist.
Resources
Share any information, ideas, publications with parents at the
school site.
Bring to the district GATE Parent Advisory Committee meetings any
information,
ideas, publications which might be of interest to other parents at
other schools.
Support
Facilitate participation by other GATE parents. Provide a forum
for parents
at your school site to ask questions and give feedback to
district/site proposals.
Planning and Evaluation
In accordance with state law, the GATE Parent Advisory Committee
has the
following general responsibilities: to work with district personnel to
ensure
the ongoing participation of parents of gifted and talented pupils in
the
planning and evaluation of FUSD's GATE program |
